Our client in Manchester is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their specialist Positive Pathways Team on a maternity cover basis.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly specialised service supporting adults with diagnosed Learning Disabilities who are transitioning back into the community following detention under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act and/or complex prison releases.
The team plays a vital role in preventing hospital re admissions, reducing the risk of re offending, and supporting individuals to successfully reintegrate into the community for up to 12 months following discharge or release.
This is not a standard Senior Social Worker position. You will be working with some of the highest-risk individuals across Manchester and will often act as the lead agency in managing complex multi-agency risk, statutory responsibilities, safeguarding concerns, and legal processes.
🔹 Key Responsibilities:
* Provide day-to-day support, supervision, and professional oversight to Social Workers
* Deputise for the Operational Manager at strategic meetings where required
* Lead on complex risk management, crisis planning, and multi-agency working
* Chair and participate in MDT meetings
* Support practitioners through court proceedings, including:
- Round Table Meetings
- Hearings
- Section 21A Challenges
- Welfare Applications
- DoLS Applications (Community & Hospital)
* Quality assure and verify assessments, reports, and statutory documentation
* Lead and coordinate complex safeguarding enquiries
* Oversee detailed and defensible risk assessments
* Complete and quality assure Mental Capacity Assessments
* Represent the service at Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers Hearings
🔹 Requirements:
* Significant experience within Adult Social Care
* Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding, and Court of Protection processes
* Experience managing highly complex and high-risk cases
* Ability to provide leadership, professional challenge, and support to practitioners
* Excellent assessment, report writing, and decision-making skills
📌 Office-Based Requirement:
Due to the complexity and risk associated with the role, successful candidates must be office-based for a minimum of three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and one additional day of choice). This requirement supports rapid joint working, effective oversight, and practitioner support.
