Our client in Wigan Council is seeking an experienced Children's Social Worker to join their Locality, Duty, Children with Disabilities (CWD) and The Hub service. As a Children's Social Worker, you will work with children, young people, and their families, completing high-quality assessments and delivering timely interventions to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes. Depending on the team, you will manage a varied caseload and work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
Within Wigan's Duty Service, you will be part of one of five duty teams and will be on duty one week in every five, supported by a Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner, and Senior Social Worker. The Duty Service is fast-paced, focusing on assessment and intervention before cases are transferred to the most appropriate long-term team, ensuring families receive ongoing support tailored to their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of children and families within Locality, Duty, CWD or The Hub.
- Undertake statutory assessments, safeguarding interventions, and risk assessments.
- Complete Child in Need, Child Protection, and Children Looked After work where appropriate.
- Develop effective care and support plans that promote positive outcomes for children and families.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with children, young people, and their families.
- Analyse complex information and make informed decisions to safeguard children.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for meetings, reviews, and court proceedings where required.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated support.
- Maintain accurate, timely case records and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and council procedures.
