Children's Team Manager Assessment & Intervention Team | Devon

Our client in Devon County Council is looking for a Team Manager to provide direct management, oversight and quality assurance of social work practice within their team, promoting positive outcomes for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the allocation, oversight and quality assurance of work undertaken within the team, ensuring needs are met and risks are effectively managed.
  • Lead, develop and support high-quality social work practice, promoting continuous improvement and improved outcomes for children and young people.
  • Ensure team members understand service priorities, professional standards and team objectives, deploying staff and resources effectively.
  • Monitor and address underperformance or poor performance in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Provide professional oversight and support to social workers through joint visits, strategy meetings, court attendance and other relevant activities.
  • Maintain quality standards through regular supervision, case auditing and performance monitoring in line with the Council's quality assurance framework.
  • Support workforce development, including social work appraisals, personal development plans and professional development aligned with service priorities.
  • Ensure appropriate support is available for the management, teaching and assessment of social workers at all levels of experience, including newly qualified social workers.
  • Provide appropriate oversight, direction and support to allocated cases during periods of staff leave or sickness.
  • Promote effective multi-professional and multi-agency working across the locality and wider community to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practice, legislation, statutory frameworks and professional standards.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across Children's Services and partner agencies.
  • Identify and report service shortfalls to senior management and contribute to service improvement and development.
  • Support staffing and recruitment decisions and ensure effective induction processes for new team members.
  • Monitor health and safety requirements within the service area, including risk assessments for lone-working staff.
  • Promote equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice, challenging discrimination and prejudice wherever it occurs.
  • Contribute to policy and service development to support continuous improvement in service delivery and outcomes for children, young people and families.
