Job Title: College Facilities Supervisor / Driver (Temporary)
Location: Bermondsey, London (SE16 4QF)
Salary: £16.51 - £18.53 per hour (FTE £30,985 - £34,777 per annum), Inner London Business Support Scale, Grade 4/5
Contract: Temporary, Full-Time (36 hours per week, year-round)
Working Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 07:30 - 15:45
Friday: 07:30 - 15:30
(1-hour unpaid lunch break)


About the Role:

We are looking to recruit a dedicated and proactive College Facilities Supervisor / Driver to support the smooth day-to-day operation of our college site in Bermondsey, London.

This is a dual-role position combining facilities supervision with driving responsibilities. You will play a key role in ensuring that our site is safe, clean, compliant, and welcoming for students and staff, while also providing safe and reliable transport when required. The ideal candidate will be practical, responsible, and flexible, with excellent attention to detail and a calm, solution-focused attitude.


Key Responsibilities:

Facilities Supervision:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the college premises, ensuring a clean, safe, and functional environment.

  • Carry out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs, or coordinate with contractors as needed.

  • Conduct regular site safety inspections, ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation.

  • Maintain security of the premises, including opening/locking up, alarm checks, and emergency access.

  • Monitor stock levels and supplies for maintenance and cleaning equipment.

  • Liaise with external contractors, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, site rules, and health and safety protocols.

Driving & Transport:

  • Safely drive college vehicles (including minibuses) to transport students and staff between locations or for external visits and educational trips.

  • Carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks to ensure road worthiness and cleanliness.

  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, mileage records, and service documentation.

  • Ensure adherence to all road safety and transport regulations.

  • Support mobility and access needs of students and staff during transport.


Essential Requirements:

  • Full, clean UK driving licence with D1 category.

  • Valid Enhanced DBS check (Child and Adult Workforce, including Barred List check) issued within the last 3 months - or willingness to complete one prior to starting.

  • Proven experience in a facilities, site, or premises management role.

  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety, fire safety, and building security procedures.

  • Practical skills for minor maintenance and repair work.

  • A proactive, reliable, and professional approach to managing responsibilities.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

  • Ability to support and interact appropriately with a range of staff and students, maintaining a calm and helpful attitude at all times.


Desirable:

  • Valid MIDAS certification (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme).

  • Previous experience in an education, care, or public service setting.

  • First Aid qualification.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures in educational environments.
