We are seeking an experienced Head of Practice/ Principal Social Worker to work within the Safeguarding and Care Service across Children's Services and Adult Social Care & Health, ensuring agreed service plans and performance targets are delivered and that a culture of putting our residents first is maintained.
You will provide strong, visible leadership to social care practice, recruitment and retention, learning and development and promote the meaningful participation of our children and families in the development of the service. influencing service delivery and embedding a learning and development culture that promotes the profession in the council and externally. And you will be expected to play a pivotal role in supporting and leading excellent social work practice and practice excellence. The position holder will deliver the Principal Social Worker function, they are leading on the Quality Assurance Framework across the entirety of Children Services, the delivery of training functions, the delivery of the "grow our own" programmes through student placements, Newly Qualified programmes and Apprenticeships. Under the same portfolio sits the participation function that promotes the engagement and the voice of the children, including those looked after, supported through other plans and those with SEND.
You will ensure that effective recruitment and retention is supported and effective, including oversight of activity relating to apprenticeship programmes, newly qualified social workers, return to practice routes and post-qualifying development opportunities and act as the main conduit between the service areas in the council (Children Services and Adults Social Care & Health) and the respective safeguarding boards, supporting the services to respond to request for information, learning and development. When needed, they may be asked to report back to the boards and/or to the Executive Leadership Group (ELG).
