Job Overview

Southwark Council is seeking a motivated and community-focused Housing Support Officer to join their Housing Services team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping residents access stable housing and ensuring all tenancy-related paperwork is completed accurately and on time.

The successful candidate will work closely with Arabic-speaking tenants, providing translation support, collecting documentation, and ensuring residents clearly understand their housing responsibilities. You'll conduct home visits, maintain accurate case records, and liaise with Housing Officers to ensure smooth service delivery.

We're looking for someone organised, empathetic, and able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to regular travel across the Lewisham area.   • Conduct home visits to collect and verify housing and tenancy paperwork.

  • Support Arabic-speaking residents with translation and clear communication.

  • Maintain accurate records on internal systems and ensure documentation is compliant.

  • Work alongside Housing Officers and Case Managers to process applications and tenancy updates.

  • Provide information, advice, and support to residents on housing-related matters.

  • Handle confidential data with discretion and professionalism.

  • Assist in resolving housing issues by liaising with relevant departments and support agencies.

  • Promote positive engagement and independence among residents.

  • Ensure all activities comply with Council policies and safeguarding procedures.

  • Represent the service with empathy, respect, and professionalism at all times

Essential Requirements:

  • Fluent in Arabic and English (verbal and written).

  • Previous housing, support, or community experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
