Teaching Assistant - Secondary School - Merton

Location: Merton, South West London
Start Date: Mid-October 2025
Contract: Full-time | Temporary to Permanent
Working Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Salary: £100-£120 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

We're looking for a Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant mainstream secondary school in Merton this October. This is a full-time role, starting on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to move into a permanent position for the right person.

The role focuses on supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You'll work in the classroom, with small groups, and on a 1:1 basis, providing structure, encouragement, and guidance. More than academic support, this position calls for someone who can be a strong role model, helping students develop resilience, discipline, and confidence.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or an individual with limited school experience who is looking to gain hands-on classroom practice in a supportive environment.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Supporting students with SEN during lessons and structured activities

  • Providing focused 1:1 mentoring and small group support

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students stay on track

  • Building strong, professional relationships that earn respect and trust

  • Assisting teachers in creating a supportive, disciplined classroom environment

What We're Looking For

  • A degree (preferred, but not essential)

  • Experience working with young people - ideally with SEN (though training will be provided)

  • Confidence, resilience, and the ability to lead by example

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A genuine interest in helping students overcome challenges and succeed

What's in It for You

  • Consistent school hours (8am-4pm, Monday to Friday)

  • Hands-on experience supporting students in a mainstream secondary school

  • The chance to be a mentor and positive influence on young people who need guidance

  • A supportive team culture with clear opportunities for growth and progression
