Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs within our educational setting. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, including those with autism and disabilities. Duties

  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning programmes for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support children with autism, disabilities, and behavioural challenges to promote engagement and participation in classroom activities.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group assistance to help children develop social skills and emotional regulation.
  • Assist with daily routines such as organisation of activities, behaviour management, and personal care where necessary.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing environment that encourages positive behaviour and learning.
  • Support children during break times, lunch periods, and specialised activities such as toddler care or sensory sessions.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure individualised support plans are effectively implemented.

Requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with autism or other special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in teaching or supporting children within an educational or care setting.
  • Knowledge of working with children who have disabilities or behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, colleagues, and parents.
  • Passion for special education and inclusive practices.
  • Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education or child development are advantageous but not essential. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of children requiring specialised support in a nurturing environment.
