Our client, Leicestershire County Council, is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their First Response Children's Duty service, supporting the screening and assessment of children and families across the county.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Children's Social Worker with strong assessment and safeguarding experience who is confident working in a busy duty environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills, be able to work to tight timescales, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding children and achieving positive outcomes for families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete comprehensive Section 17 assessments to identify the needs, strengths, and risks affecting children and families.
- Undertake Section 47 safeguarding enquiries, assessing risk and taking appropriate action to protect children from harm.
- Respond to incoming referrals and information, contributing to effective screening, threshold decisions, and risk assessment.
- Manage a varied caseload within a four-week duty cycle, ensuring assessments and interventions are completed within required timescales.
- Work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to gather information and develop a clear understanding of children's circumstances.
- Make evidence-based decisions regarding appropriate support, safeguarding action, and onward referrals for continued intervention.
- Progress cases to relevant teams where ongoing services are required, ensuring effective handovers and continuity of support.
- Work within the requirements of the Children Act, including progressing cases through Section 17, Section 47, and the Public Law Outline where appropriate.
- Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced duty environment while maintaining high standards of practice and recording.
- Contribute to multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and emerging service developments, including the Families First Partnership Programme.
- Support the development of integrated front-door and multi-agency approaches to safeguarding and assessment.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when working independently and as part of a wider team.
