Our client, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, is seeking an experienced Supervising Social Worker to provide high-quality social work services to existing, prospective, and connected foster carers across the Local Authority.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fostering or Supervising Social Worker with strong assessment, safeguarding, and foster carer support experience. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of fostering legislation and regulations, strong partnership-working skills, and a commitment to ensuring safe, stable placements and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake comprehensive fostering assessments of prospective, existing, and connected carers in line with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Contribute to placement sufficiency by supporting the development and availability of appropriate foster and alternative placements.
- Complete additional carer assessments, including Special Guardianship conversions, risk assessments, and risk management plans.
- Provide regular supervision to foster carers and develop appropriate support and safe-care plans to meet identified needs.
- Lead investigations into complaints and allegations involving foster carers, working collaboratively with relevant professionals to ensure appropriate safeguarding action.
- Apply legislation, regulatory frameworks, statutory guidance, and evidence-based research to inform professional judgement and decision-making.
- Maintain accurate and high-quality case records while ensuring compliance with professional and organisational standards.
- Maintain Social Work England registration and meet all professional standards, ethical requirements, and continuing professional development obligations.
- Contribute to team management, staff development, service objectives, and continuous improvement across the fostering service.
- Support effective budget management and contribute to achieving financial and operational objectives.
- Work flexibly across Children's Services and with external agencies, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the needs of children, young people, families, and foster carers are met.
- Promote a positive workforce culture focused on excellent service delivery, safeguarding, and ongoing service improvement.
- Contribute to service development projects, take responsibility for additional areas of work, and deputise for the line manager when required.
