We're looking for a passionate and experienced Training and Development Officer to lead and support professional development across our Social Services teams at Cardiff Council. This is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the quality of social work practice through effective learning, development, and career support.
You'll coordinate practice learning arrangements, support staff undertaking professional training, and promote post-qualifying awards and Continuous Professional Education and Learning (CPEL). You'll also work closely with internal teams, external partners, and higher education providers to ensure high standards in workforce development.
We're looking for someone with a Degree in Social Work and a post-qualifying award in Social Work, including Practice Teaching and with experience of the qualification framework and the CPEL/PQ Framework
Key Responsibilities:
- To support the Workforce Development and Training Manager in the implementation of the Social Care Workforce Development Plan as it relates to Adult Services and Children's Services ( Social Care and Health Group).
- To coordinate arrangements for practice teaching within the Social Care and Health Group.
- To identify, train and support practice teachers and to provide support and guidance to students on placement.
- To coordinate arrangements for employees who are seconded to undertake professional social work training.
- To work with colleagues, together with those in the Independent and Voluntary Sectors and with Higher Education Providers, to establish and maintain a local Practice Learning Partnership for the provision of all practice learning opportunities within Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan.
- To promote and facilitate the achievement of post-qualifying awards and other Continuous Professional Development activities.
- To provide career development advice and guidance to staff.
- To prepare annual training plans and to contribute to the Social Care Workforce Development Programme Funding Application and Monitoring Report.
- To contribute to the management of budgets in relation to Practice Placement Funding, Social Work qualifying training and post-qualifying training.
- To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of both staff and student learning and development provision.
- To engage with strategic and operational managers to ensure that learning and development activities are an integral part of the Group's Workforce Development Plan and Service Plans, and that they support the achievement of Group and Corporate aims and objectives.
- To maintain an awareness of operational issues, including research and national developments and maintain a good knowledge of the National Occupational Standards for all social care staff.
- To ensure that all services are provided within a framework of Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice, and take account of the views of service users.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts and omissions and to comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate.
