Our client, Northumberland County Council, is seeking an experienced Social Worker to manage a complex and varied caseload involving Children in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children.
This is a great opportunity for a qualified Social Worker with experience across CIN, Child Protection, and Looked After Children who is confident managing complex cases, assessing risk, and working collaboratively with families and partner agencies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong safeguarding practice, professional curiosity, and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a complex and varied caseload of Children in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC).
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families, identifying needs, strengths, and risks and developing effective plans to address these.
- Assess and manage risk using evidence-based approaches, ensuring the welfare and best interests of children remain the priority.
- Monitor, review, and update care and support plans to ensure they remain appropriate and outcome-focused.
- Use evidence-based social work tools, research, and best practice to inform assessments and interventions.
- Promote children remaining safely within their birth families or identified care arrangements by preventing family breakdown and supporting reunification where appropriate.
- Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families, particularly during periods of crisis.
- Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with children, families, carers, and multi-agency partners.
- Apply local thresholds for intervention effectively, ensuring cases are appropriately stepped up or down according to changing needs and circumstances.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure all case management activity complies with statutory and organisational requirements.
- Use relevant ICT and case management systems effectively to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to less experienced colleagues, sharing good practice within the team.
- Participate in service improvement projects, initiatives, training, and other activities that contribute to the development of social work practice.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and maintain compliance with Social Work England standards, including professional performance and ethics.
- Participate in the office duty system and undertake other duties appropriate to the level and grade of the role.
