Our client in Portsmouth is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join their Children's Social Care service, supporting looked-after children and care leavers.
The successful candidate will be passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for young people and will bring a curious, reflective and relationship-based approach to their practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Work passionately with children and young people, remaining aspirational and committed to achieving the very best outcomes for them.
- Develop and maintain positive, effective relationships with young people, their families, carers and professionals across partner agencies.
- Undertake high-quality social work practice with looked-after children and care leavers, ensuring their individual needs, wishes and aspirations are understood and addressed.
- Support and challenge colleagues and supervisees appropriately to ensure high standards of practice are maintained.
- Provide effective reflective supervision, supporting staff to develop their knowledge, skills, resilience and professional practice.
- Communicate confidently and effectively with children, young people, families and professionals from external partner agencies.
- Produce clear, accurate and concise written work, assessments and reports, presenting evidence effectively.
- Manage competing demands within a busy environment, demonstrating strong organisation, prioritisation and time-management skills.
- Remain curious and motivated to understand the experiences and needs of children and young people and identify opportunities to improve outcomes.
- Contribute positively to a supportive, reflective and learning-focused team environment, encouraging collaboration and inter-team support.
- Use IT effectively, including Microsoft Word and Excel, to maintain accurate records and databases.
- Demonstrate tact, diplomacy and empathy when working with children, young people, families and other service users.
- Apply learning and professional development effectively to day-to-day practice and support colleagues to develop reflective and resilient approaches.
- Apply a strong understanding of legislation, social work theory and statutory guidance relating to looked-after children and care leavers.
- Apply substantial post-qualifying experience within Children and Families Social Work to complex situations and casework.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the needs and experiences of looked-after children and care leavers, supported by relevant experience in this area.
- Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and exploitation concerns, taking appropriate action to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Work effectively with children, young people and adults from diverse backgrounds, recognising and responding to the individual and diverse needs of children and care leavers in Portsmouth.
- Maintain valid Social Work England registration and comply with relevant professional standards and requirements.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grading and nature of the role.
